Getting Things Done

I simply LOVE organising. And, as you may guess, I love pink. Organising gives structure and makes me feel in control (haha). Everybody knows the effect of To-Do-Lists (I love to cross out a task that is done) - and I possess more than one Filofax (though I only use one now - otherwise it would get very complicated). Especially at the beginning of a new year I have the feeling to start afresh - though on a minor scale I get that virtuous feeling every Monday (not for me the song "Tell me why I do hate Mondays").
Nowadays I have my To-Do-List almost everytime in the same room where I am. Before that I had splendid ideas in the bath/kitchen or living room - and then I forgot them easily.
A big item creating disorder are newspaper - Daily newspapers, and Good Housekeeping etc. Now I have started to read a newspaper or journal with a pen in my hand - I mark what I think is worth keeping, cut that article out AT ONCE or write the interesting web-address on an index card.
I don't know how long this system will be used by me - at the moment it works nicely.
One tip from a very old household book I really appreciate: they wrote that you should put on your make-up before starting to do housework (or paperwork).
I do - it makes me feel better ( as does making the bed in the morning) - and you never know: the postman always rings twice :-)

Oh yes - I'm a lover of the organiser too. Each year in January I delight in the new pages for my day timer - and I love lists, especially the crossing off on lists. Such a sense of accomplishment.

I like your idea of writing down websites right away, have lost many 'good' addresses as the magazines get tossed before I remember to go back and gather the information.

I seem to thrive on disorder and chaos. I make little notes to myself on my mobile phone, and then struggle to interpret my own version of short-hand afterwards.

Looks like your make-up tip makes the postman feel better too ;-)

Blimey Britta, I didn't know that Filofaxs still existed! *wink*

I tell you what, with your organisational skills, if you owned an iPhone, and used Outlook and Firefox for your diary and website links, you would be dominating the world!!

Fancy organising me?!

I love the idea of putting on one's make-up before doing the housework. Do you think that accounts for the fantastically elaborate make-up we see in certain periods? (Anything to put off dusting!)

Dear Pondside,
Rainer Maria Rilke even wrote a beautiful poem about the feeling of crisp newness on the first day of the New Years Year: "the clarity of a new page/ on which everything still has the possibility to become everything".
Dear Janet,
yes, I have a lot of useful index cards on my Rolodex now.
Dear Blogger Formerly Known AS,
I'm so glad you are back again (and not the postman!:-)
Dear Annie,
thank you but no - I have no ambitions to get the grip on anyone beside myself! :-) Though it seems to be a profitable theme in literature.
Dear Raining Acorns,
well: look at my eye-liner - like Amy Winehouse's, takes hours! And if you see dust in my living room: these are the fluffy seeds of the poplar, that is flowering now - taresome :-)

Thank you for this inspiring post, Britta. I have to have at least one To-Do-List because I'm not good at organizing things. And your pink purse(?) is very beautiful. Hmmmm...next time, I'd love to buy a pink one just like yours.

I saw your previous posts. Oh You look really
great with the lovely hat!!

I used to be a huge fan of fresh starts. Now, I'm beginning to see the benefits of letting a layer settle and building on it.

Dear Sapphire,
thank you for that compliment! And for me a pink Filofax is really uplifting!
Dear Suze,
first time I had that feeling was with my garden that I created in 20 years - and now after 6 years Hamburg I feel it in Berlin: here we might stay.

I love pink too!
Every beginning of the year I start to to the same but ... I never finish!
I'm just a little lazy.
Have a wonderful week-end.
Bisou, Babi

Thank you, Babi!
To finish things is sometimes a little bit more difficult than to plan them :-)

My mother gardens. And she wants all of the blossoms to come too quickly because that is her nature. I think gardening has been very therapeutic for her over time, though.

Build. Build and build and see what will come of our persistent labor. :) Have a lovely weekend.
