How to make your Life more exciting - with Blogger's new Word Verification!
Sometimes (but seldom) I use word verification for my own blog.
But YOU use it often. The last days I thought: what has happened? Has there been a conspiracy of the opticians to force me to buy a pair of specs? Should I take out the interesting booklet from Alduous Huxley (yes, Him) "The Art of Seeing"? Had those How To-Books lied to me when they said that with the beginning of getting older your sight will improve? (Come to think of it: they must have. Lied. Because getting older starts in the craddle).
I rubbed my eagle eyes when I looked at the strange hieroglyphs under your texts. But was still to proud to use the hearing-aid they offered at the side of it - mind: I must have something hopeful to look for at my Old Age.
But: I found a cure! I read in Nutty Gnomes post a recommendation, the blog 'The View From Bag End':
http://theviewfrombagend.blogspot.com/2012/02/bloggers-latest-improvement-word.html?showComment=1330504700507#c2711131748199240680
- and there was a soul who was not only sharing a problem with me, but also offering a solution!
Thank you for that!

Hi Britta, the "hearing aid" is worse - you should try it next time you see it, might almost make you want the dreadful words back!
I am a proponent for removing the word verification. It is just a nuisance. I tried listening to the words spoken and it sounded like a jumble of people talking over each other.
Word verification makes some bloggers so cranky they have a "Word Verification Free Blog!" badge on their site. These new ones are almost impossible to decipher!
I've not used it for quite a while, and so far, so good. I figure I'll just have to put on moderation if I have a spam problem again. (PS: Are you aware you've still got it on here?--and of course please do let me know if you run into it over my way.)
Dear Bilbo,
I'll try it - fearing for my ears :-)
Dear Debbi,
I also don't know why they think stopping spam by this.
Dear Crayon,
I want such a batch! Like gluten- or dairy-free.
Dear Susan,
spam mail is a nuisance - till now I haven't got it. To be sure to understand your PS: do you mean you have to write a word verification here on W&P? I looked at "Setting", but thought it gluten-free.
Ha ha ha Dear Britta,
your that comment was apt..I also dont want use word verification, and I often get irritated when seeing it in other's blogs..But a lot of spam comments used to get posted in my blog..thats why I use it..
Dear Tomz,
I can understand that bloggers use it because of spam - because spam is so annoying. I don't think the fault lies at the user: it is the fault of Blogspot.com, because before the new arrangement everybody could read the words (well, mabe the robot, too?). On the other hand: if they keep it as it is, we don't need a crossword-puzzle, a little mystery is... always exciting :-)
I hope you take the word verification out. I use moderation for my blog...that way there isn't a lot of spam on the blog. That new verification is brutal.
Dear Janet,
I followed Billbo's tipps - but in setting (mine, it is the old system) I didn't find the box 'word verication' to tick off the 'no'. If anybody has a suggestion I will be glad! Otherwise I will follow your tipp and use spam moderation.
There was actually a featured article about this on BlogHer recently. Putting word verification on your site is being seen by the internet-savvy world as very amateurish. (Please tell me I don't have it on my blog by mistake!)
Oh - and drat - there's word verification on this comment stream. Sorry about what I said up there - you're a gem and I love your blog!
Dear Liesl,
hahaha - I loved this :-) I was told by Janet, Queen of Seaford, that I still have word-verification - which I don't want to have - and on Facebook she was so kind to tell me, what I have to do: to go back to the old template etc - I tried, but I cannot get to that old version! And I am really afraid that if I muddle up W&P (being my last 'normal old page from the beginning') as I did with 'Gardening', I have no way to ever have a blog-list e.g. again - so I am very vexed. E.g. I can only write a new post for 'Happiness' by entering first 'Witty&P" - imagine that (and at the moment nobody is here in persona to help me. On Facebook I lost my original account after trying to 'repair' something - I have a new account now, but fewer nerves... But in a few days I will try again to cure the word-verication - and if I succeed, please tell me!
Hmm. I don't like comment approval and feel like word veri is like the last stand against spam -- which I rarely get.
Quandary ...
Dear Suze,
after I looked up 'quandary', I quite agree! On my setting I give free access to anyone who wants to comment - without comment approval - and that's what I thought I had - but you see: the other bloggers tell me that they have to verify to enter their comments. So I need patience - and good nerves to find out what is the matter.
No, no- I'm not going there, Britta! Blogger done a fairly good job with controlling spam, which is why I don't understand the new word veri (yikes, you could spend another 1/2 hour on that thing!)--unless of course, they plan to patrol less.
I really wish bloggers would drop it. Especially for short posts, where getting through the verification process takes longer than reading the post!
That said, Britta, you've got word-veri here! Ack!
Dear Jayne,
hahaha - you were all so kind to hint at that :-) Sunday I was for one hour really in panic: after the tips of a kind soul I tried and tried - and suddenly I had a mud-green-blue blog-template without my witty&pretty-box, without a blog-list - but with that depressing colour. I was very relieved when after a lot of work I got my old (yes, it is my old! template - I cannot go behind that) template back. Though in this spring I might try somethind new - but please tell me: how can one keep a blog-list on the new template?
I got it! I think. On the blogger dashboard - over on the upper far righthand side - is something that looks like a gear. It's grey. If you hover over it - it says Blogger Options. You can choose to go back to the old format. From there - under Settings - under comments - you can opt out of word verification. I can't tell but I think there are no more word verifications on my blog! Hope that helps!
I thought the same thing!!
I want to THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT!!!
I can not put into words how much I appreciate it.
This is such a personal things for me that positive words means more than I can express.
I thank you my friend .
Have a pretty day!
Kristin
