I’m
so proud!
The book “Leon. Backen. Herzhaft&Süß” is now published by DuMont
on the German market – and I translated it.
Written by Claire Ptak and Henry
Dimbleby the book was such a joy to translate.
Lovely
pictures inspire,
the recipes are easy to bake - as some of you will remember: I 'tried and tested' them, and are often done with a lot of wholesome
though delicious ingredients.
A real treat!
I WISH YOU ALL A HAPPY EASTER!

Hello Britta:
This is simply wonderful. Many, many congratulations as you must feel so very proud to see your translation in print.
We send you our warmest wishes for much joy and happiness this Eastertide.
Well done - and big Congratulations to you! That's quite an accomplishment and of course you should be proud. Happy Easter!
Congratulations!! I'm so proud of you! The book looks lovely and you look really great! I'm so happy to hear of this good news!
Congratulations! And Happy Easter to you :) xx
Congratulations!!! The cover of the book is wonderful, and so brilliant to see you there with the book. A Happy Easter to you, too, dear Britta!
Wunderbar! Good for you Britta. Love the cover pictures of the book. Tested and tried recipes too!
Happy Easter. Frohe Ostern!
Dear Jane and Lance,
thank you! I am happy that a lot of work is coming in such a beautiful package.
I wish you a Happy Easter!
Dear Pondside,
thank you! Although it was tough (very little time) I enjoyed the work. Happy Easter to you!
Dear Sapphire,
thank you! The designers of the book are great: they make you want to bake the recipes at once. The first book (Leon. Real Fast Food) won in Germany last year the prize for best German cookbook (though it comes from Great Britain)
Dear Sparrows&Sparkles,
thank you! I wish you a Happy Easter too!
Dear Sue,
thank you! I love the cover (and the pictures inside), and I really enjoyed it (more than my translation of 'Henry Esmond' :-)
Happy Easter to you, Sue!
Dear Janet,
thank you! The recipes are often with ingredients that are 'real' food - without being boring. Though, of course, clotted cream is used too :-)
What a beautiful book! It would make a wonderful gift for a dear friend of mine. She has friends in Esslingen (?) and just loves her visits there. Happy Easter!
Dear Crayon,
thank you! It is quite heavy - the book I mean (though the delicious Pecan-pie might be no flyweight either :-), so I would order it on Amazon, and her suitcase will remain light.
Happy Easter!
Congratulations Britta!
Hope you are having a lovely Easter break x
Ah, I am so pleased for you and so very proud! And you look so very beautiful, witty and pretty Britta!
What a wonderful Easter post.
Dear Plaits and Paisley,
thank you! Easter in Berlin is fine - a bit cold but sunny.
Dear Suze,
thank you! I am happy to get so many beautiful compliments from all of you!
Britta, What amazing news, you must be 'pleased as punch'. I'm really pleased for you. A great gig. Fabulous pic again, very elegant.
I had not heard of Violet cakes but I am catching up now. What a lovely brand.
To cook your way through the book is great fun I am sure, in the style of Julie in the movie Julie & Julia.
Paul
Dear Paul,
thank you! Claire Ptak was pastry chef at Chez Panisse (Alice Walker's restaurant in California), fell in love with a 'dapper English DJ' followed him to London where she now runs her bakery, Violet (Wilton Way) and her stall, both Hackney. Funny: there began the friendship with Henry Dimbleby - the other author and co-founder of 'Leon' - because they bought the (simple, but lovely) macaroons so often.
Oh yes, Britta, what a happy Easter cheers! Congratulations on the publication of this book, with your as a contributor. How marvelous! You have good reason to wear a big, beautiful smile. It's a stunning accessory. ;)
Now that is something to be very proud of, Britta. A well-deserved round of applause for you! I wonder if my mother would like the cookbook. She doesn't cook much anymore, but she might enjoy reading a cookbook in her native language. Are there anecdotes to go along with the recipes?
Dear Jayne,
thank you! All my life (since I could read) I collected recipes - but I never had the idea to translate in that section. The offer came out of the blue - and the bulge of work was sheer bliss. Hope I will do some other books.
Dear Walk2write,
thank you! The book is lovely to look at - but one warning: though the pages are really large, 20 x 26cm (and the main text is printed in bold letters) the little anecdotes and extra informations are written very (!) small. I had to take a magnifier to decipher them - and I can look like an eagle. Best: have a look at the English version in a bookshop, to be on the safe side - it has the same design.
Hello Britta,
Congrats. I am very happy that my friend's work appears in the market. You translated it from English to German, right? And that cover was very much attractive..Thanks for sharing
Dear Tomz,
thank you! Yes, I translated from English to German - translators always translate from the foreign language into their mothertongue. What I do here on the blog - writing in 'English' - is absolutely unprofessional (and loaden with faults).
